Horry County Divorce Records

Horry County divorce records are court documents recording the dissolution of a marriage. They detail the legal end-to-end process of ending the marriage from when the divorce was filed to when the final decree was issued. Divorce records are classified as public records, so they are generally available upon request unless the record is sealed by the court or has information on minors.

To search for divorce records, individuals can check the Horry County Clerk of Court’s Public Portal tool and search by people or by organization. Under the case category of the people search, the requester should select divorce to retrieve only divorce records. The Vital Records Office of the South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) is the custodian of state divorce records.

In-person record requests with the DPH require individuals to complete an application form, pay a $17 searching fee (excluding $3 for additional copies), and come along with an official means of identification. The only persons permitted by law to access certified copies of divorce records in South Carolina include the divorced parties (former husband and wife), the children of the divorced parties, and the spouses of the divorced parties. Other members of the public only receive a statement of the divorce, including all its details.

Horry County divorce records typically include the following:

  • Names of the parties ending the marriage
  • case and filing number
  • date of filing and finalization
  • judgement or divorce decree
  • motions
